One of the newest artisanal spirits makers in the metro Detroit area is Two James distillery. The company was founded in Corktown, a historic Detroit neighborhood, and is committed to producing environmentally conscious handmade spirits. They use local ingredients and organic materials. In addition to producing gin and vodka, they also make rum. Their flagship product is the Blue Label Gin, which has a light and refreshing flavor.
Two James metro detroit distillery aims to revitalize the community and emphasizes sustainability. They use locally sourced agricultural products, non-gmo materials, and organic ingredients to create their spirits. A portion of the proceeds from sales of their products will be donated to Bees in the D, a nonprofit organization that supports honeybees and promotes conservation.
The two-story, 7,000 square-foot building is in the heart of Detroit’s Eastern Market and features a distillery, a tasting room, a reclaimed construction materials bar, and an event space. They recently expanded their hours, as well. They are open six days a week, and offer tastings, snacks, and cocktails. Eventually they hope to offer absinthe, as well.
If you’re a fan of bourbon, be sure to check out the distillery’s Honey Bourbon. You can purchase the Metro detroit distillery limited-edition bourbon online or at select liquor stores. This year’s edition is made with honey gathered from rooftop bees and has a slight variation of flavor from harvest to harvest. It’s $60 per bottle and available November through March.
Two James distillery produces a variety of handcrafted spirits including gin, vodka, rum, and bourbon. They’re available at their Corktown location and at grocery stores in almost a dozen states. Some of their award-winning offerings include Four Grain Bourbon, butcher’s Cut Bourbon, and Butcher’s Cut Rye.
The distillery also has a cocktail lounge and a small, cozy tasting room. At the tasting room, guests can enjoy artisan cocktails created in-house. For the holidays, the tasting room is offering a special holiday menu. Featured drinks include Claus for Vacation, which contains fernet and Gilded Age Vodka; Shopkeeper’s Gin; and Fizzions of Sugar Plums, which includes aperol, honey-plum tea jelly, and rum.
The Two James distillery specializes in sourcing local, organic, and non-gmo ingredients. As a result, they’re able to produce alcohol with a minimal carbon footprint. To ensure that the distillery is in compliance with Michigan state regulations, they follow strict guidelines. Additionally, they’re committed to making their craft product more accessible to consumers.
With a focus on the community and sustainability, the distillery aims to bring people together. They also host events and specials, and they support local businesses. Currently, they make vodka and rum, but soon they’ll offer absinthe.
They’re located in the Kales Building and last updated in February. However, they’ve been reportedly vacating the location. Check out their Facebook page to find out more!
The distillery’s tasting room is also releasing a new holiday menu. They have fifteen new craft cocktails to try. Guests can also take a tour and see the operations of the distillery.
